Environmental Issues

The environment is in deep danger if we don't do anything about it. We need to make america great again.

Dear Future President,

Whoever you are, you need to start changing the world. People need to protect the environment more if people want to live longer on this planet. I care about the environment because everyday when I go to school, I smell pollution in the air. I like trees and the scent of nature, not the smell of chemicals or gasoline. Later on, there will be no more trees in the world at all! New York is my home and I don’t want to live in a messed up place with no clean air. The environment is an important thing that people need in order to survive. There are currently about 15 environmental problems wrong with the world. That’s a lot of problems! Here are some of the major problems

Number one, global warming. It is a serious topic and not one to be joked with. It is a real thing and is not a myth made up by the chinese to scare people. The world is already heating up and will continue to do so by 2.5 to 10 fahrenheit degrees in the next century if people in the world don’t change their actions. Some people say there is no proof, well here’s some proof. Over this century, the precipitation on the southwest side has decreased and the precipitation on the northern side increased. That means that in some places the weather is too dry because of the heat and some places where the weather is too wet because of the other countries’s evaporated rain. That means that global warming can affect places with dryness like droughts and wetness like floods.I wonder how the world would be 50000 years from now. Would it be hot with no winter or would someone like the president made a solution to global warming? I think that people aren't trying hard enough to help the world. People in the world are sometimes too lazy to walk a bit extra to recycle I think that if we change soon, the world won't be ruined later on, and we won't have to move to mars. We should use renewable energy more often instead of fossil fuels.

Number two, ocean pollution. Ocean pollution is another serious topic to discuss. There are oil spills, seas of garbage, sewage disposal, and toxic chemicals. That’s a lot of pollution in the ocean! Humans need the ocean to survive on earth. If humans pollutes it, the ocean will be dirty and we can’t drink from it, and will be uninhabitable for sea animals (no more fish to eat!). When the garbage or oil is dumped into the ocean, sea animals get polluted with it. Then animals like bears and birds eat the sea animals, they get polluted and sick as well. Plastic garbage is the worst one of them all. High concentrations of plastic like plastic bags is found in marine animals have been found blocking breathing passages and stomachs. When water is polluted, it gets poisonous. If we keep polluting the water, there will be no clean water to drink any more! You may think that Earth is full of water, but only 3% of that is clean and drinkable. Because of that, 1.1 billion people in the world don’t have access to water and 2.7 billion people find water scarce for at least once a month in a year. Also, the pollution from the water will eventually travel to land and pollute the land. The polluted land will be used to grow crops, which will also get polluted. Last of all, we, humans, eat the animals, sea animals and plants and get polluted or sick. In the end, everyone and everything get sick and will maybe die.Soon is everything going to be polluted? Yes. People need to change if they want to have a clean world to live in. Pretty soon, everything's going to die and even the humans too. Animals eat waste and we eat the animals. The ground will be full of waste and the plants are going to die. If vegetables get polluted and we eat the vegetables, we are going to be polluted. In the end, everything is going to die if we don't stop polluting the world.

Now that you learned about some of the issues that the world have ( it’s not even half of it) do you think that humans should do something about it?We need to make new laws that protects the environment. People dump waste everywhere and it's not a good thing. Cavemen didn't need plastic bags or lighters to survive, if they don't need duct tape, we don't need it as well. The money that go into making useful things but not needed can instead be used for making solar panels or any other renewable energy source. That can slow down our rate of killing the planet a lot. Also, you can make a suggestion to the government about making a law for recycling and waste disposal. Try to do something about it future president.

Lab students have been painfully subjected to three debates where they searched for policy talk. Four and a half hours later.. Now, our students will have the chance to speak about an issue of importance and possibly make a recommendation for improvement.
