Gun control in the U.S

Using guns for home protection could save lives of U.S Citizens

    Dear Future President,

Have you ever seen the news when a person has a break in and stops the criminal and save their family? Well I believe that guns should be legal as long as the person has a background check for owning a gun, it takes safety classes for owning the gun, and people who have been in jail for murder for any major crime can not own a gun. “Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year or 6,849 every day. Most often, the gun is never fired and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.” says www.gunfacts.info/gun-control-myths /crime-and-guns/. Many of the gun laws are hurting people that have a good record and are trying to get a gun for hunting or for home defense and have to wait a long time for something that should only take 1 to 2 days.

I think that increasing gun laws would slow down the good people who need guns and ammo while the criminals find and use illegal guns. “Gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime.” A Nov. 26, 2013 study found that, between 1980 and 2009, assault weapons bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level and states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murders." said by http://gun-control.procon.org/. This shows that many people who have guns are trustworthy and it is mostly illegal guns doing the killing. Many people will say that owning a gun is a risk and that you should not own one because you could become a criminal, but many guns that are used in crime are illegal shown here from bjs.gov, “According to the 1991 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those inmates who possessed a handgun, 9% had acquired it through theft, and 28% had acquired it through an illegal market such as a drug dealer or fence. Of all inmates, 10% had stolen at least one gun, and 11% had sold or traded stolen guns.”

Imagine a home intruder breaks into your home, your alarm goes off and you reach for a weapon, but it turns out you have no gun, so what do you do? “60% of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they knew the victim was armed. 40% of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they thought the victim might be armed” says www.gunfacts.info/gun-control-myths/crime-and-guns/. Seeing the statistics here why would you think owning a gun is such a bad idea. Many criminals after getting shot trying to intrude into someone's house don't ever come back to crime.

Many people think guns are bad but some of my best memories are My brother, My Father and Myself are hunting/ firing range activities. I had to take a class and practice at a firing range before I hunted and I have never gotten hurt or hurt others. I have never had a problem with a criminal trying to break into my home. If a criminal ever broke into my home I would feel protected .

I hope you now believe the truth about guns and it's not the guns fault for the crime it's the person who pulls the trigger. As Long as background checks and safety class are still in place I believe that people can learn the safe ways to use, clean and keep firearms and keep their family safe.

Sinserly
