Writing Our Future

The Average Joe

Issues: Economy, Middle Class, Recession, Drop Out Rate, Teachers

Dear Barack Obama,

Do you have any idea how the economy is affecting the average Joe? How we as the middle class struggle in life? To be perfectly honest, I don’t think that u do. The war on terror has long gotten out of hand. I represent the voice of the youth living in the middle class by asking you to look further into the education system as well.

The economy is slowly killing this once great nation. And the middle class is suffering the most from all this. We are far too in dept be the nation that is supposed to be envied by all others. Before trying to help other counties around the world, I believe that you, as president, should be more concerned with the well-being of our own county. We have reached a state of   oppression that resembles the one in the 70’s. If we don’t act soon, we could reach a state of depression that will take far too long to recover from. We have become far too dependent on other countries and are no longer the economic heavyweight once feared and respected.

The war on terror has prolonged for far too long. While we spend countless expenses over there, our people suffer. I be no means expect you to correct Bush’s mistake however; I feel that Iraq isn’t and shouldn’t be our primary concern. That fact that we had no motive to go there in the first places is reason enough to send our troops home. I now realize that it is no longer that easy due to the countless terrorists now surfacing around us. You as president should be able to make a decision that we better the situation with our people above all else.

We as the future of our nation need the tools to be able to get the best education possible. And with the N.C.L.B (No Child Left Behind) policy in motion, I real as thought we are being robbed of the privilege. The youth of this nation are being pushed along without having to work for it. Then once we leave high school, we can’t succeed in life because the teachers and advisors didn’t properly prepare us for the “real world”. The high school dropout rate is horrendous. These among other factor contribute to the crime rate in the youth of today. The charts given on the other page should help illustrate exactly how bad these issues really are.

There are many ways we could resolve this issues. For example, we could look further into the banks literally “giving” out money. This will decrease the amount of money owed to the government that people cannot afford to pay. You specifically could use your vast knowledge of rhetoric to perhaps negotiate something that would better both their county as well as our own. The last solution I have to offer is put more money towards pay school faculty so they put more effort into preparing us for the “real world”.

I hope that u take what I have said today to heart and consider some of the changes I have stated

Sincerely yours,

Sean Ivory
