Writing Our Future

$700 Billion Dollars and Foreign Oil

Issues: Energy, Oil

Dear  Mr. President,

I am writing to you on an issue that I think is important for this country.  We are in a huge energy crisis.  We are running out of oil, and the oil we get from other countries is very expensive. Oil prices are so high that we send $700 billion dollars out of this country alone.
The United States of America needs to be able to produce oil, so we don’t have to rely on other countries to get oil for us.  I am concerned about the U.S.A’s lack of oil and how we buy oil from other countries in the Middle East.   Some people think that oil is the only reason we are fighting in Iraq.  We need to find a solution to this so that in the future we will have enough energy.  I have some suggestions.

Oil is not a renewable resource, but we need oil.  People need to conserve oil by driving fuel efficient cars and by not being wasteful.  We need to find other sources of energy, like solar energy and energy from wind.  These are renewable resources and ones that do not hurt the environment. T Boone Pickens of the Texas legislature said, “embrace wind power to help break our addiction’ to foreign oil.”  Windmills alone can’t produce enough energy to support the entire country.  Because we still will need oil, we need to find ways to get oil from the United States instead of from other countries.  We need to find better ways to drill for oil that do not hurt the environment.

The United States of America’s energy problem is far from being fixed. We need to pay attention to it. T Boone Pickens pointed out, “"Neither presidential candidate is talking about solving the oil crisis. So we're going to make 'em talk about it.” I know there were many issues during the campaign. Now that you are president, I hope that you will be committed to finding solutions to the energy crisis.

Sincerely,

JH
