Writing Our Future

Issues: College, Tuition, Finances, Education

One issue I want to address is a better education. This country’s future lies in the hands of the young and we should be prepared before the weight of the world is placed on our shoulders. A more motivated and challenging course for high school and the lower grades paired with lower college tuition rates will make a difference in the future of this country.

Compared to the education offered throughout the world, America is falling behind. Schools give students a choice between higher and lower level classes, but shouldn’t all students be compelled to work above and beyond their limits and reach for the sky? Standards are set so low that it's easy to pass to the next level with very minimal work and effort. It seems like grades are so inflated nowadays. Some high school students graduate without deserving to. Teachers are also to blame here. I've heard of some that won’t give grades lower than a 70, or will bump up your grade a point or two if you bring in tissue boxes, batteries, etc. Aren’t grades supposed to reflect your knowledge and effort?

College tuitions can be a problem for some people. Sure, there is financial aid and scholarships, but what if you don’t fulfill their requirements? Loans will hurt the student in the long run if he/she is not able to complete the course. The scare of money discourages some into not going into college at all.  One less educated person, and one less shot at the world. This loss could be prevented if the government would regulate college fees so they wouldn’t be so outrageously high.

Please take these issues into consideration, as you are the one who holds our future, which is ultimately the future of this country.
