Creating The Moment
Issues: Renewable Sources, Alternative Energy, Energy Crisis
Dear Mr. President,
Oil prices have escalated up the past few years! Our resources are becoming limited and soon oil will be scarce. Prices will keep soaring until the price of gas is unreasonably high. As president of the United States of America, you should highly consider alternative energy sources. It will help us pull our troops out of Iraq and end the war. We are too dependent on oil. It will also slow down global warming, and the Greenhouse effect. Oil is used to make gasoline, and when burned, adds to Greenhouse gasses. We are amidst an energy crisis. By using renewable alternative energy sources, like Wind, and Solar Power. We will be able to reuse energy, save our environment and make the United States of America a better and cleaner place.
Wind Power is an alternative energy source. It isn’t very expensive and can be used without harming nature. Right now, home electricity bills are really high! If everyone spends $200 on installing a wind power system in their backyard, they can reduce their power bills by 80%, or even eliminate it completely! In addition to this, people can store their energy into batteries. Instead of paying the power company, they could sell their power to the power company. The wind power energy is obtained by windmills, usually built on wind farms where there are strong winds, preferably high altitude and offshore sites. The wind turns the blade of a windmill, which spins a turbine inside a generator, to make electricity.
In today’s situation, we are in an energy crisis, and we need to use a plentiful, renewable source, Solar Power. Although the amount of solar energy a day is indeed hard to predict, due to the unpredictable weather patterns, we all know it is very resourceful. Solar energy is the sun’s rays that hit earth. On average the sunlight hits the ground 12 hours a day. The total energy we receive from the sun each year is around 35,000 times the total energy used by man.
We can convert that massive amount of power into heat and energy in two ways. The first way is using Photovoltaic Devices (PV Devices), also known as solar cells, which changes sunlight directly into electricity. For examples, some calculators are PV Devices. The second way is when the heat from solar thermal collectors is used to heat a fluid that produces steam. This is used to power a generator.
There are 3 solar thermal power plants that are used, Parabolic Troughs, Solar Dishes, and Solar Power Towers. Parabolic Troughs have a parabolic-shaped reflector that focuses the sun’s rays. It can focus the rays at 30 to 100 times its normal intensity. The transferring heat is circulated through receivers and stops where it is generated into high pressurized steam. The steam then goes to a turbine to produce electricity. Solar Dishes concentrate energy at the focal point of the dish. Its intensity is typically over 2,000 times its usual. A Solar Power Tower creates electricity by using thousands of flat, rotating, sun-tracking mirrors, called heliostats, to concentrate the sun’s energy onto the central receiver panel. Energy can be concentrated up to 1,500 times.
Solar Panels should be installed on everyone’s home. It will help power our homes. Batteries will be used for extra storage of energy like they are used for Wind Power. With Wind Power Systems and Solar Panels for every household, we will have an unlimited supply of energy and save lots of money.
We are in need of a great leader to guide us out of this Energy Crisis. It has a negative effect on the war in Iraq, Global Warming and the Economic Depression. If you don’t act now, Americans will be stuck in the middle of a war, and a huge disaster. Switching to Alternative Energy Sources is that important! There are still many Renewable Alternative Energy Sources, which have yet to be explored and discovered. For example, the Green Crude Production is a not very well-known Renewable Green Fuel Source. It is a carbon-neutral product that is produced directly from CO2 and sunlight. It generates a new kind of crude oil from algae, one of the world’s oldest plants. You should also explore other ways to power cars without polluting our air. As president, discover and bring Alternative Energy Sources, like Solar and Wind Power into play, to help Americans out of this tough time period and our mother nature clean and prosperous.
Sincerely,
Allen C.
