Global Warming

Issues: Global Warming

Dear Mr. President,

Global warming is an important ecological issue and has many negative effects upon our government. The sun warms the Earth's surface and to stop it over-heating the heat energy is radiated back through the atmosphere and into space. Gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, CFC's and nitrogen oxides trap some of this heat by warming lower atmosphere, which in turn warms the Earth's surface. This is the 'Greenhouse Effect' and is essential to life, as without it the Earth would be so cold it would be inhabitable.

People in the U.S. have been battling gas prices for some time now. The price of gas effects everyone's lives. High gas prices put a crimp or many people's budget. If gas prices goes up then the cost of consumer products will go up. Many people need to drive to work. Gas should be made affordable so it does not negatively effect the lives of many Americans. If people spend less money on gas thy will have more money to spend on other products such as, food, cloth, and house-hold materials.

There are many ways to stop global warming, but many people are lazy to do it. We should drive energy efficient car. For instance, hybrid cars run on gas and electricity. The average hybrid can save 16,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and $3,750 in gas money! Pay attention to the MPG (miles per hour) of a car you may want to buy and no SUVs. Also we need to take care of out appliances. Unplug them when you don't use them; this saves $256 a year because appliances still use energy if they're plugged in, even when not in use. Get energy saving light-bulbs. Compact Fluorescent bulbs use 66 percent less energy and replacing just 3 regular bulbs can mean saving $60 each year.

Please, Mr. President, you have to do something to save or economy. I understand that you are a very busy person but I think that it's time to make a change.

Sincerely,

Nazeha Uddin
