The Big Es: Economy and Energy

Issues: Economy, Energy

Dear Mr. President,

The 2008 Presidential Election is getting here quickly with a little over a week to go. There are many problems in the United States of America today: the economy, an energy crisis, wars in overseas countries, and many more other issues. These issues are putting tight pressure on the presidential nominees in the 2008 elections.

An issue that I believe the next president should work on is the United State’s economy. There is high unemployment and debt in this country; we are also near a recession. I believe the next president should work hard on putting money back in our country. Every day I watch the news and the stock market has gone down hundreds of points and thousands of people have lost their jobs and homes. Others may say that the gas prices have decreased, but the truth is, inflation on the American dollar has been its worst in years and once the economy comes out of this crisis, gas prices could skyrocket again.

Another concern of mine and millions of other Americans is how is the next president going to resolve America’s need for valuable energy? We are now relying on unstable foreign countries to supply us with our crude oil supplies. We should put more money into alternative fuel sources like hydrogen fuel cells, more efficient hybrids, and biodiesel. Car manufacturers are creating cars that run on alternative fuels but in limited supplies and at an extremely high price. If we put more money into creating these vehicles, they will be safer, more efficient, and easier to produce. For example, Honda has created the FCX Clarity, a model that runs on hydrogen. The only problems are: they are expensive and can only be located and filled up in Southern California. You can lease one of these vehicles for 36 month for $600 a month! Since Southern California is the only place you can refuel one of these cars, owners can’t leave about a 100-mile radius without fear of running out of fuel.

America’s economy and energy prices are two issues affecting this country greatly and they should be fixed immediately. If they are not addressed, we could be faced with a major problem that could last for many years.
