I'm Only One, But...
Issues: Illegal Immigration, Gas Prices, Education, Abortion
I'm only one person, but my voice can still be heard. I'm only going to discuss with you a few problems that are going on in our world today. So hear me out with some of these things. Many of the students whose essays you are reading, probably feel the same way. I'll be sharing with you about abortion, illegal immigration, and education mixed in with some gas prices.
"I murdered four of my babies." -Anonymous. Not only this person, but many young women today are having abortions. Why would you kill someone who has a potential of living? Talking to some people, I find that there are many different views. You may say that taking a loved one off of life support is technically killing someone who once lived. They had a potential to live, they lived their life, and God took them away. Abortion is, according to Webster, the termination of pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. The fetus inside a woman's uterus has a potential to live. You are here today reading my essay. What would it be like if your mother killed you? You wouldn't be alive, would you? Think about that and explain to me how right it is to continue to let women abort the fetus.
My next topic I would like to cover with you is illegal immigration. I'm sure you know, or you could guess what happened on 9/11, but did you know that three of the four pilots driving were illegal? The next big incident could be greater and kill more Americans. Do you want to be the cause of their deaths? Not saying that all illegal immigrants would do this, but how would you go about standing for the crimes many of them have committed? How would you find out their records? Do you know? Oh,and what about the illegal immigrant who killed the Denver police officer? I don't know about you, but I know for sure I would not want to deal with this. If you cut them off by not allowing them in our country, the crime rate would go down greatly. Not only do they affect adults, they directly affect us as students. Although many of the immigrants are educated, most of them are very poorly educated. This being said, teachers are forced to go back and reteach to these individuals instead of focusing on the level they should be on. You should be aware of the literacy level of immigrant students so that they can receive the special assistance they need in order to be well educated. Education here in America is very important. It has been shown that one year after graduating in 1999-2000, 87% of individuals receiving their bachelor's degree, were employed. That is a very good statistic, but you being president, don't you think it could be better?
Talking about education, you want us all to have a good one, right? Some teenagers drive to school but there has always been the option of riding the bus and walking, which only pertains to people who live close. The only way for students in the country, or even in the city, to get to school is by using gas. It's going to cost us all more to get this education with the gas prices unbearably high. Seriously, they were close to, if not $4.00 a gallon just this summer. Talk about ridiculous. They have gone down, but not by much. I can remember when I was in elementary when my parents could fill the vehicle up with only $20 and now its taking $40 or even $50 to come close to filling it up. Being involved in activities through the school, I have found myself driving more frequently. Even going to and coming from work keeps me driving myself around. I spend almost half of each paycheck,if not more, on gas alone and getting paid $7.00 an hour, that's a lot of a paycheck to spend on gas. There has to be some way to lower the prices, and I'm not big into politics, but I do know that there is some way.
Again, I am only one student in a small town in Nebraska, but I believe that hearing our voices will make America a much better place in the time that our generation will be where you are now. Little by little things can get done. I'm only one, but my voice needs to be heard.
