The East-West School of International Studies students who are writing letters to the presidential candidates are 10th and 11th graders. The students' letters will reflect questions and issues that are important to each of them. Go here to comment on our letters: http://youthvoices.net/discussions/list/432
Global Warming is seriously harming our world, massively and we must stop it.
In the past years, we have registered but fewer of my generation has actually voted. You should be alarmed by this because the immense amount of us could radically change the vote.
This is about the lack of care about global warming, and why people should start caring about it.
The Environment and Energy are big concerns this time around, the people are worried about global warming and the green house gases that are being emitted from electrical appliances, and all types of other problems for the average household. People seem to notice things happening only when it happens to them personally and so when these problems come along make them seem personal to you.
Education is important for our world, and schools lack funding. We don't deserve our taxes to be cut, so the next president must focus on this situation. Education is the foundation for students' futures.
The U.S. government spends a lot of money trying to keep immigrants out of this country. Why?
Many people wonder about the war. I personally want to know when the war will be over. Even though this is something that many people ask and talk about, I'm coming from my own perspective. But I'm not sure why I'm wasting time writing this. Even if the president reads this, he will only "listen" to what i have to say only for his campaign. It's not cynicism, it's realism.
My letter to the president is about the economy. It goes into what each candidate of the 2008 Presidential election has to say about what they think about the economy and how they think the current Bush administration is handling the current economic crisis. You also get to hear what I think about each candidates policy on trade and economics.
I am in a constant stugle in search of the best economy.to start my business and would it be sucsess full or potentially fail prior to our economic situation.Just wondering is it phicically possible to be sucessfull in starting a new bussiness or will it fail because of the economy
All Americans have the right to climb the ladder towards the American dream, let us allow the immigrants to step out of the shadow and climb the ladder toward the American dream.
Education leads us into paths of life, unearthing qualities in us that we never thought we had. Its an education that provides us with the necessary equipment we need to succeed in life. But times have come to where the focus of learning and education is limited to only what those in power see and not as a primary source of contact. Fact we are young. Fact we have much to learn and fact we are willing to learn it too but we need a president who will recognize the youth as part of this nation give us pride in our schools and make possible for the youth of today to become the leaders of tomorrow.
What's life like for the immigrants? Do they have a place to live, a job, and money to spend when they first come? Why would they surfer to do that just to get to America? The government is kicking them out and checking on them. This is not fair because when they are here they work for the US not their native country. Why would you sent them back just because they don't have a residency permit? What if they are just doing what they are supposed to do. I understand how one can be sent back if they are unlawful. but what about the innocent people? They are not doing anything to harm this country.
The idea of my essay is to write about the expectation of the youth in this election. It also states the different opinions on the candidates that are running for president on health care.
Global warming is severe, and we need to expect more of our government to do something about it. I hope that this crisis will be resolved once or new President comes to power.
A letter to the candidate explaining why they need to get youth to help the. It tells what the youth are really concern about. What they feel that the candidate should do. It also has some quote about it
The main point of this topic is to try and prevent abortion. I chose this topic because it is important to prevent abortion because it is just like murdering an innocent human being. I think a lot of people would agree with me so maybe the next president should pay a lot of attention to this topic.
Many people assume that because we are in high school and not eligible to vote, that our voices don't matter, I for one, would beg to differ. We are the leaders of tomorrow . We will be the ones who suffer from many of the mistakes and problems made by the current generation of leaders. Shouldn't we have a say in what goes on in the country we live in?
if senator McCain increase the funding for public school it will be great for teachers and principals to manage every educational trip for students. if he increase funding for public schools teachers and principals will be able to manage the after school program for students who needs help for their studying. young voters and maybe teachers, parents, and relatives will be happy if he increase the funding for public schools. during the budget cutting this years, schools are having problem how to manage the budget for their schools and they are having problems if they will ave trips because of no money to pay for the substitute teachers.
I take a look at the candidates views on space travel.
This is my opinion about new leaders and supporting gay rights.
The main point of this topic stresses the importance of the government's taxing methods. Didn't you ever get sick of being taxed when you know there are other people out there that are more suitable for taxing?
This piece is about why candidate should gain youth vote although they still can not vote yet. And also some responses about some candidate's
Emergency Contraception is a pill that is to prevent you from become pregnant. You have to take it within 72 hours of the sexual intercourse for it to be effective. This helps reduce the number of abortions. Do you feel that it should be more available for everyone?
People these days are opposing the Roe V. Wade, they really are not understanding how important abortion is to women. It gives women the right, to choose whether or not to get an abortion.
Abortion, is this wrong or right? Only you can decide this. No one can decide for you. I believe it is what you think that really matters. This is a big issue among teenagers and many young adults. Abortion is not a bad thing, it's just something that can be done to prevent someone from messing up their lives. What ever the reason is you want to have an abortion, it's all up to you. Just be careful and make the right decision for yourself. This is something you should decide on your own. It's not the government's decision. Abortion should be legal for those who decided to have an abortion. It's not about what others think, it's only about what you want. It's a personal decision not a public one.
Abortion is one of the biggest issues in this century. The candidates have been supporting and opposing that should abortion be legal or not. Well in my opinion abortion should be legal because the women should have the right of if she want to keep the child or abort the child without any force.
Should abortion be legal? What your opinion. I think it should. Some candidates have different opinions on the topic.
Abortion is a very interesting topic that all of the candidates for the Presidency should pay attention too. The teenage pregnancy rate is high due to of the lack of knowledge when it comes to condoms. Several candidates are debating on whether it should legal or banned nationwide. Cythina McKinney, Ralph Nader, and Barak Obama support abortion and think that it should be legal. John McCain and Bob Barr are against it.
This essay is about abortion and how it affects the lives of many teenagers and older people. In this essay, I also explain what the candidates think on the issue. Many oppose abortion, but many don't. This essay also includes an should take youth votes more seriously and what us as teenagers are and want to heart from the candidates.
Kids' opinions are also important. We effect the election. Our opinions are heard by our parents, effecting their decisions.
Global Warning is a major challenge to all the human beings because it affects our future. It is a major challenge because we are concerned about our future we want to know if this world of humans will still be here. We want to know this because global warming is changing our lives minute by minute. I want to know what the candidates say for the Green Party, the Democratic Party, and the Republican Party.
Minimum wage should be raised at once to make it a livable wage for everyone. With the economy destroying itself bit by bit, we need to work together to keep the economy stable. We should be recycling or helping out small business to become big ones. Either way, the economy needs to be fixed, and everyone needs to help.
Picture yourself, walking down the most gang infested street in existence, trying to find your car after being called for a double shift at work. A Long and dark street where the lamps are out of commission, and the alleys are darker than space. Then you hear it, cold laughing from people. Then like the Plague, gangs flood the streets. He reaches for his gun. Wait, with gun now illegal; the Government confiscated his own.
Senator Barack Obama should be elected for President. He will bring about a good policy on gun control.
People are suffering due to crime and I think we should stop this now!! Do you want to people suffer and not live a life like we do? People should not commit crime because they hate someone. People should look beyond hate, instead of hating people should love others for not how they look on the outside, but how they look on the inside. Crimes should be stopped and people who commit these crimes should be arrested and put in jail for what they have done. CRIMES should not be committed at all.
Did you ever walk into a store and a sales person asks you,"Do you need any help?" You say, "No," and that same sales person follows you around the store just because of the color of your skin. Well you have been a victim of racism. Did you like what happened to you? Do you feel degraded? Do you feel down- sized? Well you and other people can put a stop to this brutal harmfulness. You and a group of friends or other people can gather together and create signs to persuade adults and children about racism. How can we stop racism?
Global warming is a huge problem our earth is facing. Many people don't know about it and many people just think that it is a false rumor. A lot of people just don't know what to do and many just don't care about it. This a new topic for a lot of people and they are not sure if they should believe it or not. It's a big controversy among a lot of people. Humans caused global warming and we have to make it go away.
More people will have health care as John McCain say in his campaign if he become the next President, but Barack Obama says that he will also increase Health care, so what's the difference between their health care proposals? And what about the other candidates? Who is going to change and increase health care for more people?
The U.S. is way to dependent on the so called "black gold." It is not a clean or safe for the environment. The U.S. just uses fossil fuels because it's easier and cheaper to use than investing in cleaner and environmentally safe energy. Global warming can't be stopped at this rate, but if we act now the future won't pay for our mistakes.
